"I heard," he admitted as he looked around the room thoughtfully. Then he glanced at the phone.

"Do you mind if I use yours? Mine needs to recharge."

He smiled a little.

"I'm surprised he found your number. Well, no. But mildly amused."

"My number's actually not that hard to find, if you know where to look." He tossed Hernan his phone. "You want privacy for this?"

His room was... bland. Really, really unremarkable aside from the furniture fitting the theme of the whole place in being well made and axpensive.

He shook his head, picked up the phone, and dialed a very familiar number.

"...answer, Kirk, I know there's a phone in the lab..."

Scott went into the bathroom, anyway, because he needed to shave and brush his teeth, but he was there and he was listening.

It took a little longer before the phone was snatched up and - apparently Kirk just knew it was going to be Hernan because he said, "Don't you ever do that again."

"And what did I do?" he asked, sounding mildly bored.

"Dropped a bomb-shell, disappeared without a word and didn't show up anywhere again for hours. You scared the hell out of me. Don't do it again!" Kirk didn't sound if Hernan sounded bored. He'd... freaked a little. Or a lot.

Scott meanwhile was just going to brush his teeth and let them work it out.

"A bomb-shell? What bomb-shell did I drop upon you? And if you had checked the satellite, you would have seen where I was. I was nowhere, but it was the same nowhere the whole time."

He breathed in deep.

"I cannot guarantee that, Kirk. I needed the stars for a time."

"Don't scare me again, not don't -" He growled faintly, which actually wasn't much like him. "I don't want to talk about the rest of this. You're safe, and the rest of it doesn't matter. I have work to do. Get on with your day."

He leaned into the phone and spoke quietly and there was nothing bored there.

"I did not mean to scare you," he said as he turned towards the window, "I did not think I could. I thought you knew better. After all, I am Superman, no?"

A touch of humor, a little show of bravado.

"My apologies."

...and Kirk knows how rarely he apologizes.

"Have a good day, Kirk. Do not forget to sleep or eat."

He knows it's rare and it unknots something in his stomach and takes a deep breath then lets it out slowly. He says simply, "You too," before he hangs up.

Scott is... still on the shaving portion of his morning but he knows when the conversation ends. "You okay?"

He put the phone down and nodded over to Scott.

"We had... a discussion. I may have said some things about his former friends that I do not regret, but were not pleasant. He overreacted."

He tipped his chin to Scott.

"How are you?"

Scott rinsed his razor, pulled his glasses off and then used both hands to rinse his face off, as well as check to make sure he'd gotten rid of all the stubble. That done he turned the water off, grabbed for a towel and dried off. His voice was muffled by his towel when he answered.

"Mildly irritated that you're using that to evade, but just mildly. I'm fine. My homecoming was what it was. I'm sure I'll see more people over the course of the day, but mostly I'm buried in work." Because of course he was. "I wish your brother in law could visit. I think he'd get a kick out of the jet."

"He could," he pointed out. "If you invited him. I'm not without my means, after all."

He walked over to Scott, put his hand gently against the center of his back.

"And I am not avoiding. I wanted to know. If you wish for more details, you need only ask. I summarized."

"I don't need more details. That's why the evasion bothered me." He pulled his t-shirt off over his head and dropped it into the hamper, then headed for his closet for fresh clothes. That closet was... organized by color, shade, and item of clothing. It made matching easy.

It also indulged his inner neurosis. He moved on from there, because he wasn't going to look for more details. "I already told you how the homecoming was. I guess that was my answer. Juan-Carlos could visit, but somehow I don't think he'd really want to."

The brush off has him raising an eyebrow and stepping back.

"As you wish."

Scott stopped at the raised eyebrow, turned back and reviewed. Then frowned, faintly. "...I'm sorry. It's early. I'm on autopilot getting dressed. I didn't mean -"

He waved the concern away, stepping forward again to put a hand to Scott's arm.

"It's fine," and it is, really. He accepts Scott as his word. He's learned it's best to.

Scott stayed quiet for several moments, then leaned up and kissed Hernan. Not aggressively, but softly and apologetically, hand resting on his shoulder.

Then he moved back, without trying to break contact. "Does the situation with Kirk mean you're not going to be working at the tower today?"

He leaned into the kiss, drinking it in gratefully, and took the time and effort to add some sweetness to the kiss from his own side.

He didn't let Scott go too far, though.

"I will go to the Tower if there is work at the Tower. While I was there, he did not mention anything on fire. I will probably go there later."

He pressed in for another kiss.

"For now, I am here."

Scott kept his hand on Hernan and returned the second kiss, though it was truthfully more about giving to Hernan and trying to steady him than even simple affection. Though it was motivated by affection.

He kept his hand on Hernan as he pulled back and tried to think. "I need to get breakfast and coffee. After that I'll see what I can do about rearranging my schedule so you're not left on your own. If you don't mind skipping the tour."

"If you are busy, you are busy," he said with a low chuckle. "I'm not here to be a nuisance."

"If I'm here, I'm busy or asleep. You may as well make yourself useful." He quirked a faint smile, touched Hernan's arm and then stepped back so he could work on getting dressed. "Hell, maybe I'll throw you a group of kids and send you all into the danger room for a couple of hours. They'll get practice and you can work on being a pinball."

THAT got a raise of an eyebrow.

"Well, if you have a use for me... I certainly can't object to that. But is my best use really as a pinball, hmm?"

"Given what's on today's agenda, it's playing pinball in a teenaged mutant ninja training session, grading geometry homework, or serving a stealth jet. I figured pinball would be more fun."

"Then a pinball I will be today," Hernan said graciously as he gestured for Scott to lead the way.
