It wasn't how he'd planned on doing things. He'd planned on telling Ilya about his idea, breaking it to him gently along with the news of his new job in Metropolis. He'd planned on showing him the costume, letting him see how it looked, warning him so that he didn't have a heart attack when the intel got to him.

And then a plane had nearly landed in the middle of Metropolis and he hadn't had the time.

So now he looked at the news cameras and the excited cellphone snapshots with a vague wince as he let out a deep sigh of relief that he'd managed to balance the weight of the plane just so to bring it down without any casualties...

"But you left the work for me so I could feel important, hmm?" he asked with a little grin before nuzzling up for another kiss.

"I will say, the resemblance to your partner is a little odd. He didn't give you too much trouble about it, did he? Or your bosses?"

Illya finished the kiss before letting out a low, frustrated growl, tipping his head back and closing his eyes. "If by trouble you mean talking about it until I threatened to shoot him? But nothing from my bosses, which is...almost more worrying."

Waverly tended to bring things up in the moment when they were unimportant and save the important issues for later, after he had had time to ruminate on them.

"Meeting Superman, you talking to him, or the fact that I've got a much prettier smile?"

Because Ilya clearly needed a bit of distraction.

"How funny it is to him that, in his words, 'Superman looks like me.' Tsch. Did not have the heart to tell him differently."

But that pretty smile deserves another kiss.

"But he did not miss my talking to him either," he adds, frowning. "He will be thinking about it."

"His hair is straight and mine is curly," he said simply before leaning in for another kiss. It was hard not to kiss Ilya when he had him. They were apart so often.

"But... is it possible to bring up something like, we met on a mission you were on before UNCLE? I don't know... you're better at lying than I am."

"Everyone is better at lying than you are," Illya says with a sigh, a man who has done his best in the face of unbeatable odds.

His fingers card absently through Clark's hair as he thinks. "Not as Superman," he says slowly. "I joined UNCLE before you started that. But...I might have met you under one of your aliases before."

He considers that for a moment before holding up a finger.

"I've got a good one: you met me while you were attending one of those boring parties with your boyfriend." Headtilt. "Superman's association with the Planet is pretty well known at this point."

"Hmm." It's a good suggestion. He examines it from a few angles, but no one really remembers the unmemorable people they meet at industry parties. He could have been at one. Slinking around the edges, ignoring his hypothetical uninteresting boyfriend who would drag him to something like this and abandon him, his surprise and quiet appreciation at being rescued from terrible conversations by a handsome stranger.

"Mmhm. I like this. This will work." He's already mentally folding it into the persona of 'Clark Kent's hot Russian boyfriend' for the near future when, hah, his boyfriend will be dragging him to a boring party.

"That just goes to prove to you," he said with a little grin, "I can make up all kinds of great, sellable stories." He leaned in for a kiss. "I'm just terrible at lying."
