Even in the darkest, deepest hells, some mundanities remain, among them the feeding of prisoners and the apathy of jailers. Both of these things are taken advantage of by a particularly clever man who seeks to hit not just two birds but three with one stone.

Or, more accurately, one egg.

Which is why when Majima moves his broken body to feed himself with the thin sanbu-gayu, he’ll notice the hard-shelled egg left whole in the bowl. A hard-shelled egg surrounded by the warm soup at first until, perhaps, Majima notices that the egg is moving of its own accord. And cracking from the inside out.
